1+1= 1

This is the kind of equation that I like: 1+1=1

Can you guess??

I am pleased (so excited & I can't stop telling people!) to let you know that my brother is engaged!

Here is a link to the Nebblett family blog with a picture. :)

Much love to Luke and Chanteé- I can't wait until September 23!

Saved By Grace, Not By Tofu

Saved By Tofu Grace

It sounds ridiculously silly to say.

Of course we are not saved by tofu, flax, or almond milk!
Of course we are not saved by a tally that is kept in Heaven of how many miles/day that we walk!

It is good to make brownies with black beans.
Smoothies with kale.

However,

It is not by every wholesome meal that I eat that I enter into God's glorious kingdom. It is by His grace.

He is redeeming.
I am undeserving.

This is such a relief.

Besides the fact that I did not go grocery shopping this week (and that I did not eat any tofu (!) or my recommended daily allowance of fruits and vegetables), it is a comfort to me that the God that I serve is just, full of mercy, and loves to save stubborn vegetarian humans.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

How To...

Stay positive even while sick.

  • Don't dwell on the fact that Mom is not there to give you a cool washcloth, lumpy malt-o-meal (with extra pecans please-), and an endless supply of pillows, blankets, tea, and love.
    • Jesus is a nurturer too. He can give you more love than even Mom (hard to believe, huh?)
  • There are always should-haves, what-ifs... IF I hadn't had eaten so many cookies at the wedding, IF I hadn't had scheduled my flight to get back so late. You can't go back in time.
    • Now that I am sick, I can take this opportunity to put a whole slew of health promoting practices. (Rest. Hot and cold shower! eeee!)
  • Don't be down because of missing appointments/work/meetings.
    • Get little things done. (Remember that thank-you card you were supposed to mail...last month?)
    • Be responsible and make a few phone calls to re-arrange what you can.
  • Spend quiet time with God.
    • Reconnect. It is healing.
No moping!
Listen to happy music!

This post is dedicated to my Depression Recovery students that I will miss seeing today in class. :-)

Savannah

I met my friend Heather and her mom in Savannah, GA yesterday. We had a lovely time.
Here are just a few pics taken with my phone
Winsloe Park- one of my new favorite places.
The longest live-oak covered drive. 1 1/2 miles. It is stunning!

A very historical home.

I went up to the top of a very tall lighthouse! And I was absolutely terrified.

I felt a little more secure inside of the lighthouse.

Beautiful huh? I love that red roof.

Reading all of the signs... 1700's, 1800's... then I saw 1990. Really? It made me smile.

Keeping Up With The Jones'

This was my backyard before the New Neighbor on the Right moved in.

He brought in white Adirondack chairs, a grill, and of course… laid down a bright green cushy sod lawn. It looks great! The thing is… as a kind gesture/buttering up to the neighbor on the other side of me, he laid down a lawn for him too. Leaving me with a lovely patch of sandy cat-littered lawn.

As a bridge between the grass that is quite literally greener on either side of me, I put in some stepping stones, grown cover, herbs, and 5 square cubits of mulch that is supposed to stay brown for Up To One Year*.

I am satisfied with my results. It is nothing too fancy and I don’t think my landlord will mind. The cats even are starting to sunbathe on the stepping stones.
