Tu Han Championship

Andrew played soccer on the Korean team: Tu Han. They did so well that they made it into the championship and won against the until-then undefeated team, Squirrel Tails. Here are few pics:

Cousin Karin made some awesome shirts for us to wear: yay!

Nursing Diagnoses

Here are some of my favorite nursing diagnoses:

  1. Deficient diversional activity r/t enviromental lack of diversional activity (this is the same thing as saying someone is bored)
  2. Infeffective health maintenance r/t lack of ability to make good judgements regarding ways to obtain help
  3. disturbed energy field r/t disharmony
  4. Readiness for enhanced sleep: expression of willingness to enhance sleep
  5. Insomnia r/t unconrollable desire to sleep
  6. Risk for injury: risk factor: exposed abdominal contents
  7. Fear r/t client fear of body parts "falling out"

Ok. so maybe I am a little distracted from doing my clinical care map, but I thought these were very interesting nursing diagnoses. This week I have thought alot about saying something and it sounding totally different than the way it was intended. Nursing diagnoses are like that: when you could simply say that your patient is bored you have to say "deficient diversional activity r/t enviromental lack of diversional activity". That just doesn't make sense! Yes indeed communication is important. Be careful with your words. Do people hear what you are trying to say?

Andrew's new blog

This morning I helped Andrew create a blog. You should really check it out:

www.farmerfisher.blogspot.com

He will be in Kibidula, Tanzania next year as an SM, so this will be the place to see updates from his life.

Clinicals

I hear them down the hall
Joking, laughing, carrying on
I need help to the bathroom, but I’m afraid I might fall
Maybe I will just wait till dawn

They say “press the call light if you need any help”
Do they mean it? I don’t know if they really do
When they give me a heparin shot I want to yelp
If the nurse only knew

The student nurse walks in
Does she have any clue?
I start to feel anxious within
“Don’t worry” she said, “I will take good care of you”

Vitals, shots, and the blood pressure cuff
I hate hospitals, I think to myself
Leave me alone, I have had enough!
The student smiled; at least she is enjoying herself

I feel anxious, does anyone care? All I need is you to listen
This isolated room needs a breath of fresh air
You only notice me when the tears on my cheeks glisten
I don't feel human because of that mask you wear

The student nurse grabbed the tissue box
She gently came to my side “where does it hurt?”
My loneliness hurts more than my kidney rocks
“I just want to leave!” I wanted to blurt

She rested her hand on mine
“Would you mind if I prayed?”
Oh yes! How could I decline?
Maybe, just maybe her prayer will aid

This night I will sleep in peace
What an assurance to know that I am not isolated from Him!
Surprisingly, praying brought a release
Thanks student nurse for helping me invite Jesus in

Inner City Ministry Musings

What is the balance between faith and safety, doing God's work and when to say "I really should'nt"?

sisters

This weekend Elisa went on the SM retreat to help out. Anna and Maddy are home, and I am here thinking of all three of my very precious sisters. Although I am not lonely nor am I sad, I think of them often and love them all dearly. Here is a picture of all four of us girls having fun with Elisa's Mac.

I love you sisters!

thats gross

I think the grossest thing that I learned in nursing class today is this: it is possible to vomit fecal matter. Yep. You can throw up poop. I don't recommend it though.

This Is Where God Has Put Me

Right now I'd rather be eating grubs in my garden. Just about anything else than to study.

Well, maybe a little more realistically, I would rather be making footprints on this beach in Fiji.

Or visiting this family in Africa and living in a world of huts.
Or giving my little sisters hugs.

But God has me here. I will never be anywhere else than where I am and (hopefully) where He puts me.
God- help me to be content in all situations.
