Moses and My Shiny Nail

I try my utter best to avoid the salesmen that try to snaggle and fannagle people into buying overpriced and useless gadgets and knadgets down the walkways in the mall.

This afternoon, I accidently made eye contact. big no-no. He was persistent and then I knew I was caught. I listened to his catchy promotional offer and he began to polish my thumb nail.

"My name is Moses, what is yours? I am from Issrealll." He sure did emphasize the last part, and I'm not sure why. I tried to look very unimpressed with him, his country, and that he was holding my thumb and polishing it.

The thing was, it was pretty impressive. I hope my eyes did not reveal that I was shocked at how shiny my nail was. The other thing is that I only have ONE shiny nail. If I would have bought that little special nail buffer with diamond dust (?), it would keep my nails naturally looking like "a diamond fa two mondth".

Now I have one pretty nail. Moses had 10 pretty nails.

It is YOU, that I thank

My sister likes to tell people I am the thank you note lady. If you are wondering why you haven't gotten a thank you card from me... I have been slacking off.

There was that time I gave the flustered flight attendant a thank you card, would leave them in motels, and give them to speakers and friends far and near. I keep cards in my car, Bible, and travel with them... just in case.

Laziness and a thankless heart has set in. Oh, how I want a thankful heart!

NPR did a short interview with John Kralik, the author of "365 Thank Yous". It was John's resolution to be more thankful in the coming year. 365 thank you cards later and a book too- listening to this guy talk re-inspired me to get out my thank you cards.

I have been putting it off for too long! "After my crazy summer, then I will write thank you cards to all of those that gave me graduation gifts". "After I get a job..."

Now is the time, today is the day!

Thank you, NPR.

First Things

New nurse + new job = many new and exciting things at work!

Today was the first day for me to

  • walk into a room and have someone vomit profusely
  • get cussed out for no reason
  • spend quality time with my security guard friends
  • forget to go to the bathroom
  • do lots of things by myself
For everyone that likes to ask me everyday, work is going great! One of my favorite things about work is getting to know the patient and their family and making them feel comfortable in the hospital and with their care. I also like it when I realize it is lunch time and then go back to work for a little bit and realize that it is almost time to go home. Time flies when you are having fun (or running around like a little chicken)!

Joseph's Song

How could it be this baby in my arms
Sleeping now, so peacefully
The Son of God, the angel said
How could it be?

Lord I know He's not my own
Not of my flesh, not of my bone
Still Father let this baby be
The son of my love

Father show me where I fit into this plan of yours
How can a man be father to the Son of God
Lord for all my life I've been a simple carpenter
How can I raise a king? How can I raise a king?

He looks so small, His face and hands so fair
And when He cries the sun just seems to disappear
But when He laughs it shines again
How could it be?

Father show me where I fit into this plan of yours
How can a man be father to the Son of God
Lord for all my life I've been a simple carpenter
How can I raise a king? How can I raise a king?

I am sitting on a house.

Actually, I am sitting in a big house. All by my lonesome.

I am not pouting, it's just the fact of the matter. There are two cats here too: Nitro and Dexter. I am sitting on them too.

Actually, one is curled up beside me, and the other is staring at me from the other room.

It feels so strange to not be home for Christmas. All of my life, all that I ever done has been wrapped up in my family. I get to take care of patients in the hospital this season and I can't be with my family. Now what do I do?

It sounds so strange too. I am not used to it.

I like having a noisy house- full of people and food.

So: if you are around this Christmas, with no one to be with and nothing to do: give me a call. We can make as much noise as we want and eat all the food we can stand.

Merry Christmas!

Too Many Sweet People

Emily: "Is he diabetic?"

Dad: "He's American."

It's That Time of the Year

Ha. You probably thought I was going to say "...when the world falls in love..."

Actually:

I am waiting for my sister to leave the Samaritan Center because it is Christmas time and we are no longer allowed to go thrifting together.

I can't tell you what I am looking for though. It's a secret!

AND it's snowing! Well... it was.

Hope

Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, just as we hope in You.

Psalm 33: 20-22

Help me to trust Your name and to always hope in You. Amen.

40 miles of______.

a. euphoria
b. pain
c. determination
d. all of the above.

correct answer: d

I actually haven't heard them say that they were euphoric, especially beyond mile 30. I am so proud of John, Jessica, and Andrew! You are courageous.

Thinking about it makes me sweat...

This afternoon I shared advice and the experience of taking the NCLEX, with the nursing class that is graduating one week from today. Just going back to that classroom brought back so many emotions and memories.

Anxiety. Boredom. Overwhelming information. Doodling. Stress!

It was not hot in the classroom, but as soon as I stepped in and it all came back to me, it made me sweat.

I am going to stop writing this blog because it makes me perspire and tap my foot nervously just thinking about it.

Now the real deal nursing school. Oh boy!

Rearranging

I have a problem with rearranging my living room.

Last night I traded out my sectional sofa for a matching love seat and sofa.
They are red and I am still getting used to it.
I did a lot of rearranging and moving the piano really isn't so bad.
If you ever build a house, please don't make half of the house one big room.
It will torment you and whoever lives there after you.

I think I found a spot to put my Christmas tree and am satisfied. For now.

:)
